20 injured in a gas explosion in South Florida city of Plantation

A gas explosion at a shopping centre in the South Florida city of Plantation left dozens of people injured on Saturday.

According to Plantation Fire Battalion Chief Joel Gordon, two people suffered serious injuries in the blast that was reported at the Plaza Market on University shopping center off South University Drive near Peters Road.

Police and Fire departments from Plantation were responding at the scene. A triage area has been set up and authorities are searching through rubble to make sure there are no other victims.




Windows were shattered and debris was scattered throughout the area and parking lot. Some businesses appeared to be completely destroyed. Residents reported feeling their homes shook from several miles away.

Nearby roads were shut down after the explosion and all businesses in the area have been evacuated.
