Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap quit social media platform Twitter, after his family started receiving threats for having speaking his mind publically.
“When your parents start to get calls and your daughter gets online threats you know that no one wants to talk. There isn’t going to be reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new India & hope you all thrive,” Kashyap tweeted.
“Wish you all the happiness and success. This would be my last tweet as I leave Twitter. When I won’t be allowed to speak my mind without fear than I would rather not speak at all. Goodbye.”
Kashyap tweeted the above before deleting his account where he categorically mentioned that he wasn’t allowed to speak his mind without fear.
Anurag Kashyap was one among the many film personalities who penned an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month asking him to intervene in incidents of lynching and the alleged weaponization of slogans, such as “Jai Shri Ram” into a “war cry”.
Last month, Kashyap also filed a police complaint after a person allegedly threatened and abused him on Twitter.

Opinion: With such high profile people like Kashyap leaving a platform based on “threats” it definitely weights the fact that it’s becoming difficult for one to call India a democracy, where one isn’t able to freely express their opinions.
