Man Asleep On Driving Wheel As Car Speeds At 90 Kmph

A man filmed a video that shows a man asleep behind the wheel of a Tesla car as it speeds along a highway. The incident was reported in Massachusetts, the United States.

Dakota Randall, the man who filmed the video said he was driving on Interstate 90 when he noticed a Tesla with its driver and passenger both asleep on Sunday afternoon.

“I kind of looked over and saw what I thought was somebody asleep at the wheel and I was like that can’t be right, so I did a double take, looked over and sure enough this guy was just, head between his legs completely asleep,” Mr Randall reportedly told the US media.

He added that the car was travelling at 90-95 km/hr. He tried honking to wake up the driver, but said that it “didn’t work at all.”

Randall was beside the Tesla for about 45 seconds to a minute, during which time he managed to make a video of the sleeping driver. He sped up after that, leaving the slumbering man and his co-passenger behind.

After the video became viral and collected many views, Tesla in a statement said: “Many of these videos appear to be dangerous pranks or hoaxes. Our driver-monitoring system repeatedly reminds drivers to remain engaged and prohibits the use of Autopilot when warnings are ignored. At highway speeds, drivers typically receive warnings every 30 seconds or less if their hands aren’t detected on the wheel. Tesla owners have driven billions of miles using Autopilot, and data from our quarterly Vehicle Safety Report indicates that drivers using Autopilot experience fewer accidents than those operating without assistance.”

After Tesla brushed away the incident as hoax Randall tweeted, “For the record, this was no hoax, at least not on my part. Maybe the people in the car were faking being asleep, but I’m skeptical. I just saw something weird on the highway and recorded it. Nothing revolutionary.”
